Mother’s Day is Sunday, May 11—right around the corner. Start planning now for a gorgeous brunch for the woman you love.
Mother’s Day is so spring. The weather is warm in upstate New York, the birds are chirping, happy to be back from their winter hiatus. With a touch of planning, it can be simple to craft the perfect brunch for mom that will have her feeling the love all day long.
Cue the Perfect Scene
Where will you be setting up your brunch? If the weather is lovely, perhaps choose to set up outside (if you have the room). This can be on your back porch, patio, or backyard. If you don’t have outdoor furniture, you could set up a folding table and chairs. Or, play it simple and set out a picnic blanket or two for loved ones to sit on. If you’re planning on sitting at an outdoor table or around a folding table, adding a colorful tablecloth can elevate the look of your brunch.
Plates, Petals, and Perfect Vibes
For a Mother’s Day table setting, opt for bright, spring colors. Pastel pinks, yellows, and greens are gorgeous for a backdrop to your mid-day meal. Floral patterns and gingham are fair game as well. Depending on the size of your crowd, opt for real plates (over paper), silverware (over plasticware), and cotton blend reusable napkins. All of these elevate your experience—taking it from backyard barbecue to sophisticated meal. Additionally, the use of wicker, jute, or basket-like material looks beautiful in an outdoor setting, as the natural looks pairs perfectly with nature. Woven wicker placemats are also perfect to add a natural look to your table. Since it’s spring, be sure to add a vase of flowers on the table. Pastel pink or white flowers would be beautiful as the centerpiece. I like the idea of putting flowers in a watering can or some sort of basket, it just give the feel of being in a garden.
Breakfast + Lunch Galore
Brunch is such a creative meal because you can combine both breakfast and lunch ideas to craft a scrumptious menu. Of course, all of these ideas would pair perfectly with mimosas, espresso, hot or iced tea, or mom’s favorite bottle of wine:
- Quiche – a brunch classic that will satisfy a crowd
- Bagels with lox and fixings – think onions, caper, tomatoes, and cream cheese
- Muffins, croissants, scones – pastries are a must!
- Brussels sprouts salad – I like to add pickled onions, feta, dried cranberries and balsamic glaze to warmed sprouts for a simple, delicious salad. For a different take, here’s one I found on Pinterest.
- Fruit salad – warm spring days = fresh colorful fruits
- Chicken salad, can be served over arugula or favorite greens, on a croissant or bread of your choosing (sourdough also sounds lovely)
- Pinwheels – essentially rolled up sandwiches with your favorite fixings
- Cheese and crackers
